Digging Deeper

What started out as a simple project became a lesson in building an industrial beverage facility, albeit a small one. Over the course of our journey to bring you quality, micro-distilled craft spirits, we have found some regulatory bodies still see what we do as a full-fledged production plant. In light of this, construction is finally underway and we have literally ‘broken ground’ on the distillery. Things are getting interesting. There are still more hurdles to come but we are happily working through them. We look forward to sharing soon. In the meantime, check back for updates!

Dreams of Ethanol

The journey of starting something new certainly has its highs and lows. Breaking your way into the distilling business is no trivial process. It is a craft that requires vast levels of experience beyond the business at hand. Things like a PhD in microbiology or chemistry would certainly help, not to mention some experience with electrical engineering, thermodynamics and a little knowledge of general contracting… and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Come to think of it, a Juris Doctorate would certainly help when diving into the expanses of the city, county, state and federal regulatory aspects of starting such an operation. Oh, and then comes the financial accounting side, budgets, taxes, insurance, credit, bonds and, maybe even taking a little break to dream of sales and operations forecasting of what is to come.

But with any small business – and a limited budget – you have to get creative and this is where the fun starts. You get to be a “jack of all trades” but a master of none. With the hope that in the end, you can drive the operation afloat long enough for it to start to sustain itself and then grow beyond the limits of your dreams. It is that creativity, ingenuity and fortitude to fight despite the odds and hours that makes the difference. Once you pass all of these obstacles and find the way out of the maze, just maybe, you get to practice the craft you fought for. Then, in the end, you get to present your blood, sweat and tears for the masses so that they see the passion distilled.
